White Sox
For me, spring has finally begun. Although the season technically began over a month ago on the 20th of March, with the way the weather had been going for the past month or so I was still in hibernation. Finally, on Sunday spring sprung. First of all it was pretty much the first day where the weather was consistently pleasant for two days running. In fact, the weather was beyond pleasant. Second of all, I was able to take in a White Sox game in said pleasant weather. I’d gone a couple of weeks earlier, and wore two sweatshirts and a leather jacket, and was frankly still a little chilly.
On Sunday however, the weather couldn’t have been better. The sun was shining and the weather was just a shade below uncomfortably warm in the sun. Once the fifth inning rolled around and the sun became obscured by the walls of the stadium, the temperature was perfect. The day was diminished by the fact that the Sox lost, but all in all it would take a lot more than a single loss in April to ruin my appreciation of this fine spring day.
Even on a day that is less than ideal weather wise, a Sox game is certainly a good way to lighten your day. The stadium is very well put together with good sight lines of the game from anywhere in the stands. Just hop on the red line and head down to 35th street. Walk a block away from the station and you’re there. The product, the Sox themselves are pretty good, having won the World Series a scant two years ago. While a good team is always a bonus, for a casual fan the stadium is probably more of a draw. Good though expensive food is available at the stands that ring the seating area, and of course beer vendors stalk the stands eager to help lubricate everyone’s day. All in all, a ball game is a very good if a bit pricey way to spend a Sunday, or any other day of the week for that matter (Tuesdays are ideal as that is “Dollar Dog Night”).
