Vets Come Up
I am a U.S. veteran and an advocate for veterans benefits and V.A. hospital reform. The Coalition on Homelessness reports 18,000 veterans are homeless in the Chicago area.
In spite of Walter Reed Medical Center being thrust into the limelight, it is obvious that the Veterans Administration is not taking care of its own in other vital areas, such as homelessness.
As a result, community agencies are coming to the aid of homeless vets. Catholic Charities recently constructed St. Leo’s Residence, a 141-unit veterans’ campus on Chicago’s south side, including a clinic and park.
