Safer City–or Just Stupider?
Podcast reveals weird and wacky crimes.
Early in 2007, the Chicago Police Department released 2006 crime statistics for the Windy City. Although violent crime in other large cities across the nation for the first six months of 2006 continued to rise, Chicago stats reached a 15-year low.
The categories included: Violent Crime (3% decrease); Aggravated Assaults and Batteries (4.5% decrease); Robberies (0.6% decrease) and Burglaries (6.3% decrease). What about crimes of stupidity? It seems that these crimes continued to flourish in 2006, and now a click of the mouse will take the curious to a Chicago podcast filled with weekly dishes of tales of meatheads. The site, www.insideChicago.tv, provides local crime stories taken from Chicago police logs. Newsman Darren Stephens brings wacky and weird crime tales in a 1950s style, and even though the last entry is from early 2007, the posted entries are guaranteed to cause listeners to shake their head in bewilderment.
