No more Taco Bell

I was hungry and decided to head out with a friend to find some food. We didn’t know what we had a taste for, but something different was in order. We hopped in the car and headed a bit west.
I don’t have a car here in Chicago, but it sure is nice having a friend who does. We made our way to a restaurant named Perez, it’s located at 865 W. Randolph. From the outside, it looked like any other restaurant, but inside the wicker chairs lined with bright reds, oranges, and greens were a surprise to my eyes.
The dining room was quite intimate. In the corner of the room was TV tuned to ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. I played it safe and ordered five tacos: two chicken, two steak and one chorizo (which is Mexican sausage). My eyes were bigger than my stomach. When the plate came out I was amazed at how big they were (especially for the 1.99 price tag). I guess I had come accustomed to the cheap Taco Bell version. The food looked and tasted authentic. Complimentary chips and salsa hit the spot. The salsa was very very spicy (perfect for me… I put hot sauce on just about everything). No margarita for me (on this night), but a nice cold Sprite helped wash things down. The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that they bring you a can of pop instead of having it on tap (with free refills). I get extremely thirsty when I eat so the one can of pop didn’t do it for me. I don’t recall any music playing – so you have to make sure you have something to talk about with your dinner guest (this wasn’t a problem for me). One of the funniest moments of the night was when I looked up and saw just about everyone in the room zeroed in on Dancing with the Stars. The couple next to my friend and I were studying the moves (maybe so they could practice them at home)?
