Green Festival

I went to the Green Festival on Saturday. It was totally awesome. My girlfriend and I have been talking a bit about making ourselves more environmentally friendly,

so this was the perfect event for us.The event was held in McCormick Place and was basically a convention for environmentally friendly products and businesses to get the word out. There was literally organic everything. They had shoes that are made of recycled something, which you send back to the company to be recycled again when you are done with them. There were toothbrushes with the same idea, where you send them back to the manufacturer to be recycled once you are done with them.
Now I’m all for being friendly the inanimate environment, but I draw the line at animals. I love meat. So I was a little wary at first of the food which was not only vegetarian, which I don’t find too annoying, but vegan. I hope no one in the class is vegan, or if they are that they don’t take offense. But seriously, I think veganism is the studipest, most pretentious concept in the world. I argue with my sister, who is a vegetarian that really the cow probably isn’t aware enough to know how shitty its life is before it gets slaughtered. The idea that a cow that is used for milk has a bad life (for a cow, I’m not saying they aren’t mistreated) makes no sense to me. I’m pretty sure that the cow reaches its limited threshold for excitement and happiness with regular meals.

Ranting aside, the food was actually not bad. I was starving so I was going to eat it regardless, but I was expecting it to be awful. They made barbecue something, I wasn’t clear on exactly what poor vegetable died for my meal but it turned out ok. There was also macaroni and cheese, which confused me, but satisfied me at the same time. I honestly have no earthly idea what they used to make the cheese that wasn’t from an animal, but they were able to make it well.

All in all we found a couple of things that we weren’t aware of that we will probably start using, like wheat cat litter, which is really cool. It was a pretty fun and informative day.
