Brew & View at The Vic

Last week I had a friend from Colorado visit me on his spring break. Among the various activities we found ourselves involved in was taking in a show at The Vic on Thursday.

Usually when a person says “taking in a show at the Vic,” the assumption is that they are seeing a concert. But we went on an off night, which means that no one is playing at the Vic. Instead we took in a movie and enjoyed some alcoholic beverages. This is why they call it the Brew and View. I thoroughly endorse the concept, enhancing otherwise nearly unwatchable movies, such as the one we took in, Reno: 911 with the pleasant haze of beer. We could have stayed for the very decent second feature, Pan’s Labyrinth but as we had both already seen it we decided to forego a repeat viewing. In all honesty the several rounds of beer were more enjoyable than the mediocre film, but under the circumstances, the movie fits the feel of the event quite well.

The environment is very pleasant at the Vic, with booths and tables spaced out so that no one is cramping anyone elses style. With a very affordable $5 for admission to the film, one feels almost obligated to have at least four beers in order to help the house recoup its costs, and not at all upset over the low quality of movie being shown. Obviously with all this debauchery in the form of alcoholic enjoyment, attendants must be 21. Overall I’d say that despite the film choice, which continues at least through this week, the evening was quite pleasant. In that environment none of the other patrons were adverse to a bit of side chatter going on, which is another thing, along with boozing, that can cause problems at a standard movie theatre.
