Project: LOOP

A day in the life…

It was decided suddenly that a bunch of us would all go out for drinks. While myself and two others went on search for some local cuisine (namely a drive-through Taco Bell), the others went to scope out the bar we’d be drinking at, US Beer Company.
We had heard that it was quarter beer night, though I was hesitant on what beer would be sold for only a quarter. While my food was delayed, I received a call, tonight was some hip hop thing… there was a cover charge.

 Goose Island

The plans changed, off to Goose Island. We drove there (and got lost, going past a strip joint a couple of times), and eventually reunited with the group. I tossed back a few red ales (at 5 bucks a pop), while most of the others seemed content with the nut brown ale (but they are all a bit squirrelly. The red ale is the better choice). On a Thursday night, last call is at 1am, actually before then, they throw you out at 1. The group disbanded as people complained and went home. The remaining three, myself included, continued our almost-end-of-the-week celebration and went off in search of another bar.

Enter Delilah’s. This bar is punk in all sense of the word. There were people with eccentric hair and tattoos, we seemed to stick out. They blasted punk music (not the pop-punk that was in fashion a few years back- with the closest thing to a mosh pit being all the pre-teen girls jumping in unison). Out of my element, I went to order a drink. They didn’t have my preferred beer, Liene’s Honey Weiss, on tap (at least not on the second floor). One in the group suggested that I try the Purple Mother F*****. We asked the bartender and he insulted us, sort of. “I took you guys for being cool,” and he went on to tell us about them having 300 kinds of whiskey, and 200 kinds of beer. I asked for my Liene’s. He suggested Sleemen’s instead, claiming it was Canada’s answer to Lienekugel, but “it’ll f*** you up faster.” For 3 bucks, I was game. Sleemen’s was a bit sweeter, but I still prefer Liene’s. Their last call is at 2 on Thursday night. We still didn’t figure out why they were called Delilah’s. On one of the walls was a mural of two cyclopes cutting the hair of a third, in a sort of obvious reference to the biblical story (Delilah and Samson losing his strength when his hair was cut).
