Susie’s
To get here via public transportation: Take the blue line to the Montrose stop. From here, its just a minute or two on the eastbound #78 Montrose bus to Montrose and Elston.
If you are like me, you often find yourself hungry late at night. While there are plenty of all-night joints in Chicago, most places are closed by ten. Lucky for us, Susie’s is a 24 hour hot spot on Montrose Avenue. They serve hot dogs, burgers, Philly cheese steaks, and they have fifty different flavors of milkshakes! The place is no bigger than a closet, so there is nowhere to sit inside. If it is summertime, they put picnic tables outside, which is nice especially on warm nights. The other option is the drive thru, which is always busy, no matter what time it is. I would call Susie’s a fast food place, but in all honesty, you will probably wait in line at the drive thru for at least a half hour. They make each individual order by hand (none of this pre-made McDonalds garbage), and that is why it takes so long. Don’t let the wait discourage you because the food is outstanding! I have never had a better blueberry shake in my entire life. So the next time you are hungry at an odd hour of the night (or day), grab a friend and head on over to Susie’s on Montrose for some of the best greasy food around!
